About us

Since March 2020, a new group of Georgian song lovers has been meeting online with Tamar Buadze, not only to learn songs, but also to exchange ideas and be in contact with each other.

With one exception, the 30 or so singers come from Germany and Austria: Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, Potsdam, Leipzig, Münster, Munich, Freiburg and Vienna. One singer regularly joins in from Seattle, Washington, USA.

What they all have in common is a love of Georgian music, many years of workshop experience and a friendly relationship with Tamar Buadze. Almost all of them sing Georgian songs in various choirs and ensembles and have sung together in person. We are therefore not only an online choir, but also a circle of friends, a network, and a social structure.

While online singing with Tamar in March 2020 initially served to overcome the uncertainty and isolation caused by the Corona virus pandemic, it has now become a committed group of people who also meet up in real life and are friends. We have brought the songs we learned together online back into real life and made them resonate during in-person workshops lasting several days, ending with a concert for the public. The Mravalo Network Choir continues to grow and change from real encounters and real singing together, but is stitched together by monthly virtual meetings. The virtual meetings allow us to meet with each other from our own homes, which are hours (or time zones) apart.

Our first public performance took place in November 2023 as part of the Singfrauen Berlin anniversary concert. In May 2024, we took part in the Harmony Festival in Germany, alongside Tutarchela Youth Choir. Separate from the competition, we won the hearts of the audience and the judges. We are currently preparing for our participation in the Sakartvelo International Folk Festival, which will take place in Georgia, in September 2024.
